For International White Wine Day, Tenute Navarra presents two productions from our vineyards: the indigenous Grillo and the international Chardonnay.
Our Sofien blend is the expression of these two grape varieties, Bianco Terre Siciliane IGP, Tenute Navarra’s first white wine, a pure representation of youth, elegance, and sweetness.
In Sofien, the majority of the grapes come from Grillo, cultivated for centuries exclusively in the Marsala territory and used in the production of the well-known Marsala DOC. Today, it is the most recognized and appreciated indigenous white grape variety in western Sicily.
With variations in production areas, climate, and soil characteristics, the wine exhibits different organoleptic properties, but generally takes on straw yellow hues, more or less intense, and appears crystalline and consistent to the eye.
The nose reveals elegant and refined notes: it encompasses hints of exotic fruit, with an undertone of citrus notes. The tasting reveals a fairly harmonious, pleasantly savory wine, ranging from dry to off-dry. For this reason, Grillo pairs well with raw fish and vegetable dishes typical of Mediterranean cuisine.
The remaining part of Sofien is composed of Chardonnay, the international white grape variety originating from Burgundy.
This grape variety prefers a temperate but cool climate and hilly, clayey, and calcareous soils. The resulting product, due to its characteristics, is well suited for use in the production of both still and sparkling wines.
In its purest form, it presents more or less intense straw yellow nuances; the nose offers an intense, characteristic, and generally fruity aroma, with hints of tropical fruit, and the taste is pleasant, generally between dry and off-dry.
The union of these two grape varieties results in our Sofien, a truly unique blend that enhances all the qualities of the territory with a taste waiting to be discovered.
