From the Vine to Life – The Children’s Grape Harvest at Tenute Navarra

The Children’s Grape Harvest was celebrated today at Tenute Navarra, in a joyful moment of festivity, music, and cheer. Fifty children from various Sicilian localities, accompanied by staff from the six reception communities where they currently live and find protection, traveled to Butera (CL) to participate together in the Navarra Family’s grape harvest. The Navarra Family strongly desired and promoted this initiative, realized in collaboration with Telefono Arcobaleno, one of the main international organizations committed against all forms of child abuse.

Tenute Navarra, nestled among the gentle hills of the Sicilian hinterland and overlooking landscapes that stretch from golden fields to the distant sea, represents not only a virtuous example of sustainable viticulture but also a beacon of culture, hospitality, and human value. Led by Totó Navarra Jr., the Estates span hectares cultivated with vineyards, olive groves, and almond orchards, in full respect of the environment and local traditions. Here, agriculture is not just production, but also care: for the land, for people, and for relationships.

The day, titled “From the Vine to Life,” was dedicated to the various stages of grape and wine production, conceived as a metaphor for life and its different seasons: from growth to blossoming, from maturation to inevitable difficulties. Because suffering, when it arises, requires listening, consolation, and protection. But in sharing and communion with others, it finds relief, and in collective celebration – observed to the rhythm of nature – it can rediscover hope and a future.

«We believe that caring for the land and caring for people are the same gesture: cultivating, protecting, fostering growth. Today, in the children’s grape harvest, we experienced the strength of a community that becomes a family and knows how to transform adversity into a future.»

– Salvatore Navarra

The Children’s Grape Harvest aimed to highlight the dignity and preciousness of every person, especially the youngest and most vulnerable, who deserve welcome, listening, and care. It is an invitation to build bridges between generations, to educate for respect for life in all its forms, to attune to the rhythms of nature to learn that every end is also a beginning, and that every season, even the darkest, can contain a seed of light within it.

Among the rows of Tenute Navarra, kissed by the late August sun and cradled by the intense scent of ripe grapes, the children were able to experience an authentic, educational, and deeply symbolic event: picking bunches, listening to stories, touching the fruit of agricultural labor firsthand, and above all, feeling that, like the vine, their lives too can grow strong if rooted in good soil, cultivated with love.
