In Butera, in the heart of southwestern Sicily, our 2025 harvest has begun. It’s a moment that marks the rhythm of time and nature, renewing each year with the same emotion, but with an increasingly solid awareness: that of preserving and enhancing a unique territory through authentic, sustainable, organic viticulture aimed at generating value not only for the environment but also for local communities. This concrete commitment to ESG principles translates into responsible choices, social inclusion, and the enhancement of human capital.
The year 2025 marks a return to a more harmonious trend for the harvest season, with a timely start and an agronomic scenario that bodes well, both in terms of quality and yield. In a rare and complex pedoclimatic context, where the soil changes consistency and character from one foot to the next, our vines root themselves among ventilated hills, calcareous soils, and intense Mediterranean light. This mosaic of microenvironments demands agronomic sensitivity, where each parcel tells a different story, and our vines grow in balance between tradition and change.
Totò Jr. Navarra, a young entrepreneur and administrator of the farm, leads the way. He is the face and voice of our company,
contributing to a new, fresh yet profound pace for our production vision. “Favorable climatic conditions,” explains Totò Jr., “with well-distributed rainfall and mild temperatures, have promoted balanced vegetative development. The May rains ensured fundamental water reserves, preventing stress during hot periods. The result is an average harvest in terms of quantity, but promising from a qualitative standpoint, with healthy and well-balanced clusters. . The harvest began with Chardonnay, hand-picked at dawn to preserve its freshness. Selection takes place directly on the vine, and the grapes are collected in crates to maintain their integrity. This care is extended to every project, even the most recent ones, thanks to a team of skilled and passionate winegrowers, our vineyard heroes. .”
Following will be the indigenous varieties that represent the most authentic soul of the estates: Grillo, Frappato – a protagonist of increasingly complex and innovative winemaking processes, including still rosés and pure interpretations – leading up to Nero d’Avola, the cornerstone of Sicilian identity and the fulcrum of our enological vision. But the beating heart of the harvest is undoubtedly Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG, the flagship of Navarra’s production.
“Cerasuolo di Vittoria,” continues Totò Jr. —is our pride, our signature. We are the only producers to vinify it in this part of the area, a zone perhaps detached from the historically more represented one, but not for this reason distant: here we find unique pedoclimatic conditions that give the wine a distinct and unmistakable identity. We have chosen to work it exclusively in steel to enhance its expressive purity and maintain its varietal profile intact. It is a wine that manages to be intense, lean, and profound all at once. It is our way of interpreting the denomination, with respect for tradition but with a new and contemporary language.”
The territory of Butera, often overlooked by the most frequented wine routes, reveals itself instead to be an extraordinary terroir. The altitude, between 300 and 450 meters above sea level, the privileged exposure, and the predominantly calcareous and clayey soils allow for slow and regular grape ripening, resulting in clear aromatic profiles, good acidity, and a balanced structure. The health conditions of the grapes this year are excellent, thanks to a season that alternated sun and ventilation, naturally limiting phytosanitary pressure.
For years, we have pursued a certified organic farming regimen, investing in environmental and social sustainability, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. A choice of responsibility: every intervention, from soil management to fermentation selection, is designed to protect the balance of the agricultural ecosystem and minimize environmental impact.
“Our goal,” concludes Totò Jr., “is to maximize the value of this part of Sicily, where light, soils, and wind give life to wines with an unexpected profile: fresh, elegant, vibrant. We want to represent a contemporary South, both agricultural and technical, where every harvest is an act of consistency and every bottle a sign of our vision.”
