Vinitaly 2024: Tenute Navarra returns to Verona with two new products: Zahr and Rosemosse.
The very young Sicilian team, led by its two founders – Totò Navarra Senior and Totò Navarra Jr (grandfather and grandson) – has seen continuous progress since its debut last year. 2023 was a year that saw them engaged in national and international fairs and awards, as well as in their ambitious project of wine and olive oil production, the development of the almond grove within the estate, and a hospitality project that allows guests to experience an authentic connection with nature, the territory, and its inhabitants. After winning the Gold Label award in the still red wine packaging category for wines with designation of origin and geographical indication from the 2022 and 2021 vintages at the 27th edition of the Vinitaly Design International Packaging Competition, with Sicilia DOC Nero D’Avola 2021, “Scurò”; Tenute Navarra also won the Silver Medal at the Frankfurt International Trophy with MARIBU and the Bronze Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2023. Furthermore, Tenute Navarra achieved high scores at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, The WineHunter Award “Rosso,” and 90, 91, and 93 points at the Falstaff Trophy Sizilien 2023, respectively with Maribu (Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG), Scurò (Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC), and Battichiè (Nero d’Avola Riserva Sicilia DOC).
Mindful of sustainability, not only environmental but also social and governance-related, Tenute Navarra aims to create a circular and virtuous economy that protects and enhances the territory and social relationships. The company has embarked on a sustainability journey, measuring ESG criteria and its contribution to the 17 United Nations goals with SI Rating, to transparently demonstrate its concrete commitment to sustainability issues based on internationally recognized criteria.
The spring appointments with the global and national wine market in 2024 began with Prowein in Düsseldorf in March and Vinitaly, which will see them active in Verona from April 14 to 17 with tastings open to the public and industry professionals. These will take place at their stand 10, pavilion 2, aisle A, where they will present their wines and share their family values and company history. Specifically, on Monday, March 15, at 12:00 PM, and Tuesday, March 16, at the same time, two meetings on conservative pruning will be held at the Tenute Navarra stand; the first is dedicated to the Italian press, the second to the foreign press.
“Vinitaly,” states Totò Navarra Junior, administrator of Tenute Navarra, “represents for us not only a platform to present our wines but also an unmissable opportunity to forge ties with key industry players and consolidate our presence in crucial markets such as Asia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and the United States. We are enthusiastic about exploring new possibilities and creating lasting connections that will allow us to continue to thrive and grow in the world of wine.”
Tenute Navarra is presenting two new products at Vinitaly 2024: Zahr and Rosemosse.
A sparkling wine and a spumante join the others in the Art, Premium, and Fun lines, whose names refer to family members or childhood memories of Totò Senior and the territory where the farm is located, such as Battichiè (Nero d’Avola Riserva Sicilia DOC), a nursery rhyme that Totò Navarra heard his mother sing when he was a child; Sofien (Bianco Terre Siciliane IGP Grapes: Grillo – Chardonnay) dedicated to Totò Senior’s youngest granddaughter, or Maribu (Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG), created as a tribute to the place, combining the initials of Mazzarino, Riesi, and Butera; Disiato (Frappato Sicilia DOC), which refers to Totò Senior’s desire to create a farm in Sicily.
Zahr is a sparkling white wine made from a blend of white grape varieties, with a brilliant straw-yellow color, revealing a fruity and slightly herbaceous bouquet on the nose. It offers excellent freshness, with light bubbles and great drinkability. It undergoes secondary fermentation in an autoclave using the Charmat/Martinotti method.
Rosemosse – the first sparkling wine produced using the Charmat/Martinotti method, which preserves the fruity and delicate notes typical of this grape variety – originates from a careful selection of our Frappato grapes, hand-picked by the last ten days of August. Tenute Navarra has associated an enigmatic, unusual, and captivating campaign with this wine, which will be launched specifically at Vinitaly. This involves special wearable gifts to be carried around the fair: rose-shaped pins made with the crochet technique by hand by a Catania-based designer – Billonia – who, at eighteen, has embraced and reinterpreted the art of crochet in a contemporary key. This art has become increasingly trendy in recent years, especially among young people, to the extent that the University of Bicocca in Milan has opened a crochet workshop aimed at understanding and valuing ancient crafts, interpreted as a kind of “knitting therapy” capable of relaxing the body and mind, much like the meditative component associated with wine tasting, which relaxes and simultaneously reactivates the senses.
