Battichiè – Founder’s Reserve originates from the first vineyard that gave rise to the Tenute Navarra project. It is the family’s flagship wine, dedicated to the founder Totò Navarra Sr. and crafted around one of Sicily’s most iconic varieties: Nero d’Avola.
It is born from the memory of Totò Navarra Sr.: the oral history of childhood, the voices of the women of the house, folk lullabies, and the dialect as a form of affection and belonging.

The name “Battichiè” was chosen to transform that fragment of family memory into a symbol of identity.

The label was illustrated by Riccardo Guasco and was conceived as a work of art that traces the Founder’s life, from his birth to his rebirth, represented by the gold leaf.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, it opens with fresh, vibrant fruit aromas — blackberries, red mulberries, blueberries and cherries — accompanied by balsamic notes that emerge subtly, with greater elegance and finesse, as the wine is still young and finding its balance. It is an evolving aromatic profile, all the more fascinating for this very reason. On the palate, it is ripe yet marked by a surprising freshness that extends the finish and hints at its future potential.

The Territory

The grapes come from a vineyard located in Contrada Judeca, Butera, in an area particularly well suited to the production of Nero d’Avola. The soils are characterised by calcareous clays and iron-rich red sands. Vineyard management focuses on naturally limiting yields, maintaining vegetative balance and achieving optimal phenolic ripeness.

Aging

12 months in new French oak barriques, 12 months in stainless steel tanks, followed by 12 months in bottle.

Battichiè calls for dishes with structure and character. Grilled red meats, game, oven-roasted lamb and aged hard cheeses are ideal pairings. It is equally at home with the rich ragù sauces of Sicilian culinary tradition and the hearty, comforting dishes of winter cuisine.
