Sustainability: A Journey Toward Social Change

Tenute Navarra - Tenute Sostenibili

50% of Italian consumers believe that the term “Sustainability” means “protecting and defending the environmental aspect of our planet by being responsible in the use of resources.”

This is the data emerging from the survey conducted by Adiconsum as part of the SURF – Sustainability, Social Utility, and Financial Responsibility project, confirming the growing awareness among citizens regarding sustainability issues.

The majority of Italian consumers state, in fact, that they take sustainable actions to limit their environmental impact, such as waste sorting, a commitment to avoiding waste, purchasing organic products, and using public transportation, as well as utilizing energy from renewable sources.

Today, however, the term “sustainable development” takes on a more comprehensive meaning: “meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own,” in line with ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) standards.

This important issue is no longer to be understood as connected solely to environmental protection activities; it is a change in consumption and, above all, production habits that takes current global needs into account.
