2022 Harvest: The Magic of Hand-Picking White Grapes Begins at Tenute Navarra

Vendemmia Bianco - Tenute Navarra

The moment anticipated for an entire year has arrived: the harvest.

Our meticulous care of the vineyards throughout the year finds its crowning achievement in the act of harvesting wine grapes.

Hand-harvesting, or “vindemia” — from the Latin vinum “wine” and demĕre “to take away” — is the oldest practice still used today for a thorough selection of the grapes that will begin the winemaking process.

Our expert harvesters select the best clusters, those that have reached the perfect stage of ripeness to produce an excellent wine.

Thanks to the skillful use of hands and the strength of arms, the grapes are treated with extreme delicacy and transported with great care to avoid damaging the berries and losing the must during the harvesting phases.

Harvesting by hand means “pampering” the grapes, accompanying them on their journey toward vinification. It is undoubtedly a costly process that requires more time and resources, but it unquestionably protects the grapes and imparts higher quality to the wine produced.

Among our rows, we have begun to experience this “magical” moment with the harvest of white grapes, the “cradle” of Sofien Bianco Terre Siciliane IGP, the first white wine from Tenute Navarra, a blend of Grillo and Chardonnay that expresses our territory and the work of each of us.
